Nobody was safe the second Athy captain David Hyland put down the cup and picked up the microphone at the start of his rousing winning speech.
The bookies, the Leinster Council and a local newspaper all got a rub after Athy’s stunning two-point victory. Being written off is a powerful motivational tool for many teams and it was once again a key factor as Naas’ drive for five went up in smoke in St Conleth’s Park.
