WALKER, Mich. — A paid on-call firefighter from the Walker Fire Department (WFD) is being recognized by his team after being recently deployed to New York City in response to an art warehouse fire.

Jared Yax is one of only 100 people throughout the United States who have been certified by FEMA and the Smithsonian Institute as a member of the Heritage Emergency and Response (HEAR) Team.

On Sept. 17, there was a large fire at an art warehouse in Brooklyn, New York's Red Hook District.

Yax was one of the members of the HEAR Team called to the scene to oversee extensive recovery efforts, salvaging numerous pieces of unique artwork.
