Emma Little-Pengelly took to social media to respond to primary school principal and political commentator, Chris Donnelly – and ended up in a very public argument with the SDLP’s Matthew O’Toole.
Mr Donnelly had said: “French, American & Poles (amongst others) vote in own country’s elections whilst living here. Unionism lacks the vision and generosity to simply accept this.”
In response, Ms Little-Pengelly said: “Deeply disingenuous. The argument for voting rights in NI for the Irish President of the 26 counties, a key constitutional role of a separate sovereign state has nothing to do with the broader issue of expat voting rights and all about those voting in NI claiming this President as their President with some kind of jurisdiction in Northern Ireland.
