MURDOCK, Neb. (WOWT) - Ten months after a car crash left him with two broken legs resulting in multiple surgeries, Elmwood-Murdock freshman Jase Bornemeier is running again.

Bornemeier and his older sister, Dylan, were driving to school on a December morning in 2024 when their car hit black ice on a curve, leading to a head-on collision resulting in devastating injuries for both siblings.

“I knew I broke both my legs since I could see that they were broken,” Jase Bornemeier told First Alert 6.

The then-eighth grader cracked his right femur in three places and split his left femur clean through. He also broke his collarbone.

“I wasn’t really thinking. I was seeing if my sister was OK,” Bornemeier said.
