TODD COUNTY, Minn. — Two people suffered serious burns Saturday evening when a gasoline can exploded as they tried to start a campfire in rural Todd County, authorities said.

According to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:26 p.m. Oct. 18 to a report of a fire-related accident in a rural area near Cushing.

Investigators say Nathaniel Larson, 34, was using a can of gasoline to ignite the fire when the container caught fire and exploded.

Jody Larson, 65, who was nearby, suffered severe burns in the explosion and was airlifted by North Memorial Air-Care to a medical facility for treatment. Nathaniel Larson sustained serious burns to his hands and was taken by Staples Ambulance to Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples.
