FARGO — When people tell you to "live in the moment," do you?

A local photographer, who also works with cancer patients, has turned her hobby into a special gift she can share with those who sometimes are fighting for their life.

All because of a promise made to a dying sister.

As a photographer who grew up and lived in North Carolina and Texas, Charlotte Johnson is finding the change of seasons here a welcome transformation.

"Trees tell stories," Johnson said, walking through the leaves near Oak Grove Park in Fargo. "I tell cancer patients that the tree roots are your family -- where you started and then each branch becomes part of your journey,"

But this social worker who works with cancer patients at Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center has turned her photography into an icebreaker.
