The coaching carousel in the world of college football has already gone off the rails, with high-profile jobs like the Florida Gators, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Oklahoma State Cowboys coming open already, and the potential of places like Florida State and Wisconsin moving on from their head coaches as well.

While Sunday's news cycle was dominated by the firing of Billy Napier at Florida and questions about Mike Norvell and Luke Fickell, there was a notable update in the Virginia Tech Hokies' coaching search. One of the top rumored candidates for the job, South Carolina's Shane Beamer, was asked about the rumors connecting his name to the job, and he shut them down as quickly as possible.

"I have no idea where that story came from. I have publicly conveyed many times how much I want to be here," Beamer said in his media availability. "I’ve conveyed many times how much I want to be here. This is my dream job. I said that when I came here. Nothing has changed. I am pissed off at the way we are performing right now, and it’s not acceptable.

The Gamecocks are 3-4 through the first seven weeks of the year, with four losses in the past five weeks. Things aren't going to get any easier going forward, either, with games against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide, the No. 8 Ole Miss Tigers, and the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies coming up next on the schedule.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech is 2-5 so far this year and is unlikely to make a bowl game at the end of the season. After firing Brent Pry midway through September, they got an early jump on the coaching search, but with so many openings, there is going to be a ton of competition for the top names.
