Tribe nears tourney berth in CAA

William & Mary (6-6-4, 4-2-2) took a giant step toward qualifying for the Coastal Athletic Association’s six-team tournament, beating Monmouth 1-0 at Albert-Faly Field.

Ellie Leffler scored from the left side of the box in the 79th minute, assisted by Mia Abbey. The Hawks (10-5-1, 5-3) were outshot 14-4.

If W&M hasn’t qualified already, the Tribe can advance to the tournament with a victory next Sunday over Hampton. The Tribe is second to UNC Wilmington in the South Division, whose top three teams will advance.

Meanwhile, Hampton (5-10-1, 0-7 CAA) fell 2-1 on its Senior Day to Northeastern (3-8-5, 2-4-2) at Powhatan Field in Norfolk.
