CLEVELAND — Power was knocked out for thousands of FirstEnergy customers in Northeast Ohio as rain and strong winds impact the region Sunday evening.
According to FirstEnergy's outage map, most of the outages are in Lorain County and the west side of Cleveland. At peak, over 5,000 homes in Lorain County alone were in the dark, plus more than 500 in Geauga and Lake counties.
The WKYC Weather Team warned Sunday that a potent storm system is bringing strong southerly wind through the majority of Sunday, with a cold front fast approaching.
"Rain ahead of the front will come and go throughout the day. A stray rumble of thunder is possible too, and any storms that develop could bring strong wind gusts greater than 40-50 mph," Meteorologist Mike Joyce said.
