Smriti Mandhana has taken the blame for India’s four-run defeat to England in the Women’s World Cup match on Sunday at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Chasing a stiff target of 289, India found themselves in a handsome position after Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana put on 125 runs for the third wicket.

But after Mandhana scored 88, she got out while trying to loft left-arm spinner Linsey Smith down the ground. From there on, the Indian batting collapsed as India faltered in their run-chase , needing only 55 off their last 52 balls. Mandhana said that with India needing runs at a run-a-ball, her shot selection could have been smarter.
