MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Black Hawk Bridge, also known as the Lansing Bridge, will close to traffic on Monday morning as the bridge reconstruction project begins.

The bridge, which connects Wisconsin and Lansing, Iowa, on WI 82/IA 9 over the Mississippi River, is set to be demolished and rebuilt.

The current bridge has been in use since 1931. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the new bridge will have wider lanes and increased safety navigation for barges.

WisDOT also said they are working closely with the Iowa Department of Transportation to facilitate ferry operations and travel during the closure, beginning in early November. The ferry will be free to use.
