Delhi’s air turned increasingly toxic on Diwali as pollution levels spiked across the national capital. By 7.30 am on Monday, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 335 in the “very poor” category, with most monitoring stations recording levels above 300.
The deterioration in air quality comes despite the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) enforcing Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region on Sunday, aimed at controlling pollution levels. This is in addition to Stage I actions which were already in force since October 14.
