The SNP Government has been accused of "dangerous incompetence" as new figures show a third of ambulances are spending more than an hour stuck outside hospitals. ‌

Scottish Labour warned that increased ambulance turnaround times meant crews spend longer waiting outside A&E departments before they are deployed again. ‌

The party said this can include cases where patients have to wait in ambulances because there are not any beds available in the hospital. ‌

The proportion of ambulances with a turnaround time of over an hour has increased year on year over the last decade. In 2014 fewer than one in every 100 ambulances had a turnaround time of more than an hour. By 2019 this had risen to almost one in 20, and by 2025 it had hit one in three.
