Making ends meet is a struggle for many professional football clubs in Scotland.
The majority of teams in the top four divisions will never make money from playing in European competitions or share in the prize money awarded to the winners of the major trophies. These clubs rely on fans regularly passing through turnstiles every second Saturday and, if they’re lucky, a decent cup run involving a game or two against the biggest sides to boost revenues.
The majority of matches played outside of the top flight are peaceful affairs – off the park, at least – with very little in the way of trouble between supporters. Even the biggest fixture of all between Celtic and Rangers has seen just five stadium arrests in a six-match period.
And yet the SFA and clu
