St. Mary Catholic Central was shorthanded, but still got its share.

The Falcons, missing seven starters because of an off-field incident, went on the road to hand Jefferson its first loss of the season 20-15 on Friday, Oct. 17, in Week 8 of the high school football season.

Both teams finished at 6-1 in the Huron League and share the league championship with Riverview, which thumped Grosse Ile 68-24.

“I am so proud of them,” SMCC coach Adam Kipf said of his players. “They are a resilient bunch. The guys who had to step up, stepped up.”

SMCC drove 95 yards to score on a run by Cole Reinhardt with 55.8 seconds left, then turned the Bears away on their final possession.
