Although the latest campaign finance filings in the race to be the next governor got most of the attention last week, there was also a federal reporting deadline for candidates running for Senate and U.S. House.
Sen. Ben Ray Luján, an incumbent Democrat who does not yet have a Republican opponent, is the most comfortably positioned with almost $3.16 million on hand as of Sept. 30, according to his Federal Election Commission filing.
Republicans have already filed to run against all three of New Mexico's incumbent Democratic House members. Of them, Martin Zamora, a state House member from Clovis who hopes to beat Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández and move up to Congress, is off to the best start, although he still has a long ways to go to catch up to the incumbent.
