Donald Trump told Volodymyr Zelenskyy to give up huge swathes of Ukraine or face being “destroyed” by Russia, it has been reported.

According to the Financial Times , the US president shouted and swore during an angry meeting in the White House last Friday.

The talks took place two days after Trump held a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin in which the pair agreed to meet in Budapest.

Zelenskyy had gone into the White House meeting hoping to persuade Trump to sell Ukraine long-range Tomahawk missiles to allow Kyiv to strike deep into Russian territory.

Although he had previously hinted that he may be ready to do so, Trump turned down the request and said he would prefer to see an end to the war – which began with Russia’s invasion in 2022 – instead.
