The number of West Australians who voted at the weekend's local government elections is slightly down on previous years, following calls for participation to become mandatory.
As of Monday, almost 516,000 people had voted in the statewide council elections, representing 29.7 per cent of eligible voters.
On Saturday, the Minister for Local Government Hannah Beazley said she would consider making voting in council elections mandatory if voter turnout did not improve
This year's turnout was relatively on par with the participation rate experienced over the past 16 previous years, the ABC has found.
