Extreme heatwave warnings have been issued for much of NSW as temperatures soar more than ten degrees above spring averages.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued extreme warnings for the NSW Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands regions, where the temperature climbed to 35 degrees in Moree, Narrabri and Dubbo by 1pm on October 20.

The heatwave is expected to peak with forecasts of 38 degrees for Dubbo on October 21 and 39 degrees for Moree on October 22 - 13 degrees above the regional towns' October average.

Those areas will sustain heatwave conditions well into Wednesday, October 23, while NSW Ambulance has urged the public to take precautions to keep themselves safe.
