Gilbert residents already reeling under skyrocketing utility bills may find themselves looking at another water and trash rate hike next year.
The Gilbert Public Works Advisory board voted last week to recommend a 25% in water rates and a 2% residential trash rate hike for the town council to consider in February with an eye on them taking effect in April.
Commercial customers employing the town’s trash services may also see an increase in the price of their services, as the board voted to recommend a 20% hike in the town’s commercial front-load and curbside services.
The board’s discussion last week came amid a growing furor among residential customers over spikes in their water bills that have been linked to new meters and related technology in a new billing portal.
