Joe Kennedy III thought Eddie Markey was too old, too.
And look at what happened to him.
Markey, the veteran Massachusetts U.S. senator cleaned Kennedy’s clock, as old timers used to say, in the 2020 Democrat primary for the U.S. Senate.
Markey beat Kennedy in that primary by 782,694 votes (53.3%) to 629,359 votes (44.51%) for Kennedy.
It was the first and only time a Kennedy lost an election in Massachusetts.
Kennedy, a three-term congressman from Newton, was 42 at the time. Markey was 74.
Now Rep. Seth Moulton, 46, of Salem, a six-term Democrat member of the House, is trying to do what Kennedy could not do to the now-79 year old Markey.
And that is to end Markey’s fifty year political career, one that began before Moulton was even born.
