ATLANTA — The Atlanta City Council on Monday approved a resolution requesting an increase minimum firefighter staffing.
"We're about eight months out from our budget process, so we want to put this on the table now so we can look at a way to try to find the financing to make that happen," said Councilman Michael Julian Bond, who sponsored the resolution. "We have the busiest and the best Fire Department in all the southeastern United States and we want to get make sure that we're constantly focused on trying to find a way to get them to their optimum level."
The firefighters' union president , Nate Bailey, has said the department is running thin on crews that are stretched and equipment, too, with multiple ladder trucks and engine trucks out of service.
