New Delhi, Oct 20: To handle the surge in passenger traffic during Diwali and Chhath, Indian Railways will operate around 8,000 additional special trains in the coming days, the Railway Ministry announced on Monday. This brings the total number of special trains to 12,011 this festive season — a sharp rise from 7,724 trains during the same period last year.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Railway Board’s War Room to review operations and appreciated the round-the-clock efforts of staff, extending Diwali greetings during his visit. The minister also inspected arrangements at New Delhi and Anand Vihar stations and interacted with passengers to gather feedback.
Between October 1 and October 19, the Railways ran 3,960 special trains,
