Invest 98L, a tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean Sea, is likely to form into a tropical storm or depression in the coming days, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Monday morning.

If the disturbance becomes a tropical storm, it would be named Melissa , the 13th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic season and the first named storm in the Caribbean, state climatologist Jay Grymes said.

As of 7 a.m. Monday, the system was producing a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms as it moved west towards the central Caribbean at 15 to 20 mph.

The system is expected to slow down and come across environmental conditions that are conducive to its development, NHC forecasters said.
