Wins For Kansas: Jana’s Campaign to End Relationship Violence

HAYS, Kan. (KAKE) – Jana’s Campaign is one that Kaiti Blackburn hopes never ends. All to always remember Jana Mackey, a law student at the University of Kansas. Mackey died in 2008 in Lawrence from the violence of a former boyfriend. Mackey was only 25 and a graduate of Hays High School and the University of Kansas.

“We know that 1 in 3 young people will experience dating violence,” said Blackburn, executive director of Jana’s Campaign, based in Hays. “Typically, it's not physical and it's how we commonly think domestic violence can take place. With young people, it is verbal abuse, emotional abuse, those controlling type of behaviors.”
