NEWPORT, Ky. —

Two men arrested after a shooting near Newport on the Levee appeared in court for the first time Monday.

Devonta Pettis, 18, and Jamal Fields, 20, have both been charged with conspiracy to receive stolen property, possession of a stolen handgun and fleeing and evading police. Advertisement

It stems from an incident that happened Saturday, when Newport police say officers received a report of a single gunshot fired in the 100 block of East Third Street.

Officials say it is believed the shot was fired into the air, likely to cause public alarm.

In court Monday, prosecutors presented new evidence, alleging Pettis and Fields stalked two people into Northern Kentucky from Cincinnati and alleged there was photographic evidence that at least one bullet went into a vehicle.
