Police are investigating after a newborn baby girl was left abandoned Monday morning at a subway station in Midtown Manhattan, authorities said.

Officers from the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct responded to a 911 call shortly before 9:30 a.m. reporting an infant at the 34th Street-Penn Station stop below 7th Avenue, police said.

Officials said the infant was found awake and responsive, wrapped in a blanket at the base of a staircase that leads to the 1/2/3 train platform.

Emergency responders took the newborn to a nearby hospital for evaluation, where her condition was described as stable. Fox 5 reported that the baby was discovered with her umbilical cord still attached.
