MUMBAI: Veteran actor Govardhan Asrani (84), who played the iconic jailer in the blockbuster film Sholay, has passed away. He acted in over 350 films in a career spanning over five decades.
Asrani had been unwell for about 15 days and was admitted to Arogya Hospital in Mumbai due to breathing issues. He passed away at approximately 3 p.m. The news came as a shock to many, as he had shared Diwali greetings on social media just hours before his passing.
The last rites were held at the Santacruz Crematorium without making an official announcement or informing anyone too much as Asrani had earlier asked his wife Manju Asrani not to make the news of his death a big public event. The news of his death was announced by family sources after the funeral was held in the presence of close friends a
