The kayaker who died in a recent incident on Canandaigua Lake has been identified as Ben Hamann , 26, of Farmington, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office .

Hamann’s body was recovered earlier this month near the Vine Valley boat launch in the Town of Middlesex, following an extensive search and rescue operation.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after a 911 caller reported an overturned kayak and a possible person in distress. The search involved boats, drones, and divers.

Multiple agencies assisted, including the Yates County Office of Emergency Services, local fire departments from Middlesex, Branchport-Keuka Park, Rushville, Canandaigua, and Cheshire, and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office dive team.
