The Charlotte Area Transit System will launch a beautification project at the Rosa Parks Place Community Transit Center, starting today.
The transit center is named after the civil rights icon whose refusal to give up her bus seat in 1955 led to a 381-day bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, and a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down segregation on buses.
The CATS project is an effort to clean and renew the facility at 2811 Beatties Ford Road. The work includes power washing the building and sidewalks, concrete sealing and repainting.
CATS says the transit center will remain fully operational and the project will not impact service. No completion date was announced.
