Melbourne Airport will trial fixed-price taxi kiosks in a bid to stop travellers from getting ripped off and avoid illegal taxi touting.

The A2B taxi booking system will launch this month with three kiosks located in the Qantas domestic terminal.

Passengers will be able to enter their destination address and pay a fixed price fare up front, with a printed or digital receipt issued to show the guaranteed price.

Travellers will then be directed to a specific bay to meet their driver.

The trial is designed to deter illegal taxi touting where unwitting travellers, especially from overseas, are preyed upon.

Taxi touting, which is the act of approaching potential customers for fares or holding up signs offering services, has been illegal in Victoria since 2019.
