Shillong, Oct 20: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking his immediate intervention in the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute.
HITO alleged that the Assam government’s actions have led to human rights violations and economic distress for residents along the border.
The Assam-Meghalaya border dispute has been ongoing since Meghalaya’s creation in 1972. Despite dialogue between the two state governments, the issues remain unresolved, leading to violent clashes and loss of life, including in the most recent incident in Lapangap nearly a fortnight ago. H
ITO claims that Assam’s incursions into Meghalaya territory are a grave violation of regional agreements and have resulted in significant hardships for border communities.
