UPDATE 2:30 PM: The hostage has been released and the suspect is in custody, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Karen Pojmann, Communications Director for the Missouri Department of Corrections, says an inmate took a staff member in an office in the back of a housing unit at around 8 a.m. and was held for about four hours. Missouri State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement were brought in to help with the situation.
After around 1 p.m., the inmate released the staff member. At around 1:15 p.m., when MSHP and the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) were about to breach and apprehend the inmate, he walked out of the office and voluntarily gave himself up.
The hostage was determined to have no injuries after receiving medical attention. The subject will be relocate
