WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) - Another well-known name has joined the already long list of Democratic candidates running for governor in 2026.
Dr. Nirav Shah announced his gubernatorial campaign Monday morning.
Shah was appointed by Gov. Janet Mills in 2019 to be the director of the Maine C.D.C. He became a familiar face to Mainers with his regular briefings during COVID.
Shah went on to hold the title of Principal Deputy Director of the U.S. C.D.C.
He says Mainers are struggling with high housing costs, limited healthcare and childcare options, and food insecurity among children.
He hopes to change that.
Shah made several stops around the state today including one in Waterville to chat with Mayor Michael Morris.
