OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha’s sky came alive with giant kites this weekend, some as big as school buses, as hundreds of people attended the inaugural Heartwood Preserve Kite Festival.

The massive display featured kites with thousands of pounds of pull power at Heartwood Preserve at 144th and south of Dodge, which had never hosted a kite festival before.

“Some of these kites will pull an F-150 across the field. I mean, they are extremely powerful. Thousands of pounds of pull,” said Sean Beaver of Great American Kites and Events.

Families join the fun

Families could contribute to the skyline and fly their own kites during the event. Andrea Joy Pearson brought her daughter and spent hours flying their own kite.
