Belleville’s Loyalist College has, as expected, seen total enrolment decline by nearly one-quarter due to a federal cap on international student visas.

Yet senior staff say they’re encouraged by increasing domestic enrolment.

Total enrolment is at about 3,300 students in Belleville and Port Hope – a decrease since last fall of about 1,000 students, said Deanne Saunders, the college’s senior vice-president for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness.

Excluding Toronto campus enrolment, Loyalist’s total international enrolment has declined by 56 per cent compared to last fall, Saunders said during an Oct. 16 board meeting at the Belleville campus.

First-semester international enrolment has dropped by 83 per cent.
