Indiana Pacers rookie Kam Jones was reportedly arrested on Monday morning following a brief car chase on Interstate 65 in Indianapolis, according to WHTR-TV.
According to the Indiana State Police, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle driving erratically southbound around 9:50 a.m. The driver of the car, later identified as Jones, failed to initially pull over before stopping four miles later, according to TMZ Sports.
Jones was booked on preliminary charges of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement in the Marion County Jail after his Cadillac was observed going 90 mph. Jones said he "did not know he was speeding and was running late for practice for the Indiana Pacers."
"We are aware of the situation involving Kam Jones," the team said in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering additional information and will not have any additional comment on the matter at this time."
Jones was the 38th pick in the 2025 NBA draft after averaging 19.2 points, 5.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals last season at Marquette. He was a consensus second-team All-American and left as one of two players in program history to score at least 2,000 career points (2,044).
The 23-year-old logged four appearances with the Pacers in the NBA Summer League, averaging 13.5 points, 5.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals. He finished off his stay with a 21-point, 11-rebound performance on July 17 in a win over the New York Knicks.
Jones was sidelined throughout the preseason due to a back injury. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said on Thursday that Jones would be out until at least Nov. 9.
