A tornado has wreaked havoc in the Val d'Oise region, just 10 miles north of Paris, resulting in one fatality and at least four serious injuries. The tornado struck at approximately 5.45pm local time, unleashing powerful winds that caused significant destruction. Dramatic footage captured the moment three cranes collapsed as the storm hit, with roofs being torn off buildings in its wake. The French interior minister, Laurent Nunez, described the event as a "sudden and unusually intense tornado episode" that affected several towns in the area. In response to the disaster, a major emergency operation was launched, involving 80 firefighters, 50 police officers, and 20 ambulance service members. They were deployed to residential neighbourhoods to manage the aftermath of falling debris and assist those affected. As the clean-up effort continues, roads and railway lines leading out of the area remain closed. Nunez expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "I am closely monitoring the situation and express my support for the elected officials, the emergency services on site, and the affected residents. I offer my condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victim." Authorities are working diligently to assess the full extent of the damage and ensure the safety of residents in the impacted areas.
