I'll admit: it took me way too long to replace my last bed frame . I bought it on sale after moving into a studio apartment in Washington, D.C. a year before the pandemic, and I still remember the night two girlfriends came over to help me assemble it — they wrote notes on the wooden slats in black Sharpie. One read, "Let your dreams begin at night and continue during the day."

The full-sized bed made it through several moves, including across the country — barely. By the time I was committed to replacing it, I was propping up one of its sides with a stack of books. Plus, the small-ish bed was starting to feel real small with my six-foot partner and cat as additions.
