The City of Chattanooga has launched two new recycling pilot programs, open to residents only, to reduce landfill waste and promote sustainability.
If you live in the Brainerd area, you can join the curbside food waste composting pilot with NewTerra Composting or the curbside glass recycling pilot with Overlooked Materials, available through June 30, 2026.
Food waste makes up nearly 25% of landfill content, while about 90% of glass ends up in landfills despite being fully recyclable, city officials say.
The composting program, funded by a TDEC Organics Management Grant, will also include drop-off kiosks at all five city recycling centers for any Chattanooga resident.
Participation is voluntary and limited to residents in designated areas.
