INDIANAPOLIS — Just days after state Senate Republicans were invited to join a call with President Donald Trump to discuss redistricting , members of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus are pushing back against the efforts.
They're calling on voters to tell their lawmakers they're against redistricting.
They're concerned about disenfranchising Black and minority voters in the northwest Indiana District 1 and central Indiana District 7, which includes Indianapolis. Those districts make up half of the state's Black population, said IBLC President Rep. Earl Harris Jr. (D-East Chicago). The districts are the two Democratic districts in the state and targets in the White House's efforts to gain Republican seats in the midterms.
