LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens according to Michigan State Police. That's why advocates nationwide are reminding families about the importance of safe driving habits during this National Teen Driver Safety Week.
“I always like to think, like, your car, it can be a weapon," said high schooler Sara Zacharek.
Zacharek is encouraging her peers to think more about their role on the roads.
"You just really have to pause and realize that you're responsible for everyone in your car and all these other people who you share the road with," said Zacharek.
She's on the Students Against Destructive Decisions Student Leadership Council, and this week, their focus is building safe teen drivers.
"Every year we lose about 2,100 teens on our natio
