The Denver Broncos emerged victorious on Sunday from a wild and chaotic ending to their game against the New York Giants that saw the team score 33 points in the fourth quarter. However, after Wil Lutz's game-winning field goal, Dre Greenlaw had a verbal altercation with a referee that has now resulted in a suspension for the Broncos' linebacker.
Greenlaw's suspension — one game for unsportsmanlike conduct — was reported by Ian Rapoport on Monday afternoon. Due to the suspension, Greenlaw will miss the Broncos' Week 8 game in Denver against the Dallas Cowboys. All of this, of course, coming after Greenlaw's debut with Broncos on Sunday in the game he was suspended for. Greenlaw missed the first few weeks of the season due to injury and had previously played six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
As for how Sunday's incident played out, CBS News Colorado reporter Alex Wilcox captured video of the moment at the end of the game. In the Broncos' postgame celebrations, referee Brad Allen seemed to push his way out of the pile of excited Denver players. Greenlaw looked to take Allen maneuvering through the celebrating Broncos players the wrong way — like a purposeful shove — and the linebacker ran after the official while yelling something unheard at him.
Allen then threw a flag at Greenlaw and the end result of the incident is a one-game suspension without pay for the linebacker.
