GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — A 13-year-old boy is accused of taking his mother’s car and driving more than 100 miles per hour through East Valley streets before crashing while trying to avoid police early Monday morning.
It began shortly before 2 a.m., when the Mesa Police Department’s air unit saw a black Chevrolet Tahoe driving at high speeds near Higley Road and Elliot Road in Gilbert. Police say the SUV was driving more than 80 miles per hour through residential neighborhoods.
Multiple Gilbert police responded to the area and tried to pull him over, but police say the driver made “multiple evasive maneuvers to flee and elude the officers.” The boy reportedly continued driving into Mesa, where he sped through a red light and evaded another traffic stop.
