(WKBN) -- The devastating crash on State Route 11 last week has forever changed two families.
State Trooper Nicholas Cayton was killed, and 65-year-old Nelson Vasquez was critically injured.
Vasquez was the semi driver Cayton was helping on the side of the road.
Attorney Alexandra N. Tosado represents the Vasquez family. She says Nelson has undergone multiple surgeries since Thursday and needed to have his leg amputated.
"Today, he is having reconstructive surgery. Hopefully, this will be the last one. He had to undergo an initial surgery at the time of the crash, but right now, he's in critical condition and hopefully, he is going to have a short journey of healing. He has high spirits right now, which is good," Tosado said.
