WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Walla Walla Fire District 4 is embracing technology with the launch of a new drone program aimed at enhancing firefighting capabilities.
Chief John Golden shared how drones will be used to locate fires in remote areas, employ infrared technology to find people at night and navigate dangerous house fires. "This is really, kind of cutting edge for, for our area," said Golden.
The idea of using drones was sparked in discussions between Golden and a training officer, now retired, about three years ago.
The initiative gained momentum when Marathon Petroleum, an energy company with a major pipeline between Walla Walla and Pasco, offered a grant.
