RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. — Several taxpayers in Rutherford County may be paying too much in taxes due to faulty home property assessments, according to a Tennessee Comptroller report that revealed significant errors in the county’s assessment process.
Tennessee Comptroller Jason Mumpower addressed Rutherford County Commissioners during their meeting last Thursday, saying property assessments done incorrectly shake the foundation of the tax system.
“In Rutherford County the assessors work is more like a pile of sinking sand,” Mumpower said.
