FALL RIVER, Mass. —
A former mayor of Fall River was seriously injured after being stabbed Monday evening, the city's police department said.
Officers received a call for a stabbing and found Will Flanagan suffering from stab wounds near the 100 block of Hartwell Street at approximately 5 p.m. Monday, police said.
Flanagan was taken to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition.
Flanagan served as the mayor of Fall River from 2010 to 2014.
The city's current mayor, Paul Coogan, and Fall River police released a joint statement regarding the stabbing:
