Eric Lu, an American pianist, emerged victorious at the renowned International Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw. On Tuesday, the 19th edition concluded with Lu taking home the top honors.
Following extensive deliberations by a 17-member international jury chaired by acclaimed pianist Garrick Ohlsson, Lu was awarded a prestigious gold medal and a monetary prize of 60,000 euros. Canadian Kevin Chen and China's Zitong Wang secured the second and third positions, respectively.
The competition, inspired by the Olympic Games and named after the iconic Polish composer Frederic Chopin, takes place every five years around the time of his death anniversary. This year, it saw participation from 84 pianists, primarily from China, Poland, and Japan, with 11 making it to the finals.
