OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Wilson Bruce Evans Home Historical Society of Oberlin broke ground last week on the second phase of its project to rehabilitate the historic Evans House, originally built in 1856 by abolitionist and Underground Railroad operative Wilson Bruce Evans.

Founded in 2021, Wilson Bruce Evans Home Historical Society of Oberlin (Evans HHS) is transforming the home into a living landmark that honors the Evans family, their descendants and Oberlin’s Black community.

Rehabilitation work includes the construction of an annex featuring an ADA-universal entrance and restroom, transforming the rear wing into a dedicated educational center and complete refurbishment of the two-story front brick structure, according to a press release.
